WomensHealthAbout.Com's MakeupGirl states that "Your own personal style is a major factor when you want to feel good under your own skin." This statement applied to people in all walks of life, ranging from the sophisticated New York executive all the way to the anime-crazed teenager.
Make-up is often an extension of one's being and the nerd's should not be left out of this equation. This is a short guide to achieving a nerdy Nintendo-inspired look. Gamers should not limit themselves to just one look as the possibilities are endless.
Tools and Make-Up Needed for the Look
- Eye Shadow Applicators
- Fine-tipped Paint Brush
- Black Liquid Eye Liner
- White Liquid Eye Liner or Mascara
- Eye Shadows in the following colors: Pink, Blue, White, Gold and Green
How to Achieve The Nintendo-Chic Look
This look will look different one each individual based on the side of the eyelids, larger lids will showcase the full effect with open eyes. Individuals with smaller eyelids may need to close the eyes to show off the entire look.
- As with any good look, a nice foundation is necessary. Whether a basic foundation and concealor or a flawless complexion, make sure to apply something before getting crazy with the nerdy look.
- Start with the highlight. Use an applicator to cover the upper lid and the section just over the eye with a bright white color; this will make the eyes pop.
- Once the highlight is applied it's time to start building the landscape. Take the pink and apply starting from the inner corner of the eye and up across the upper part of the lid stopping about halfway across the lid. Lines should not be precise as the blue will meet the pink forming a "stormy sky" type effect.
- Now, take the blue color and apply to the upper lid starting at the outside of the upper lid and meeting up with the pink color in the middle. Blend with fingers to eliminate harsh lines.
- Next, apply the gold color to the remaining part of the eye lid, mostly the lower lid. This is the base for the landscape.
- Use a green color below the lid, do not apply to much to this area. It is meant to be an accent.
- Take the liquid eyeliner and out line the entire eye with a fine black line. Let dry. After the outline is dry, use the liner to outline the sandy landscape (aka gold eye shadow). Make it so that they gold looks like sandy hills. The line can be drawn with the eyeliner itself or a fine paint brush. Let dry.
- The next part is the hardest. (See the picture for an example, as this is hard to describe.) Take the liquid eyeliner once again and draw the outline of the mushroom. Including two short lines for eyes and two circles for spots on the top of the mushroom.
- Use the paintbrush to fill in the color of the mushroom. The top should be pink or red with white spots and the bottom should be white. When finished the eye should look like a Mario landscape with a Toad accent.
