Blogging for money was virtually impossible in the past, while some bloggers did have the fortune of bringing in a few extra bucks every month, none were earning mountains of cash in their endeavors. Today, the blogging world can either supplement an income or become an income. There are many bloggers out their hitting the mainstream and making it big with funny little quips or vast knowledge of subject matter.
Blogs are so great because of the diversity they offer. A writer can sit down and vent on their blog every day and if people want to read the venting, that blogger can earn a few extra bucks in the process... not a bad deal. Though, some people may have an aversion to making their diary or personal thoughts available to the world. A writer can also sit down and write neat and professional articles on a certain subject to gain income. If the subject is popular enough that income can be quite substantial.
What Makes a Blog Stand Out?
Well, the general public does not want to read something scholarly or haughty. So, if a blog comes off as such, the audience will be disinterested. What bloggers and blog readers want is something colloquial, something realistic and that they can relate to. This does not mean that a blogger can't write an article on something intelligent! It just needs to be done in a friendly manner.
Once a topic has been established, bloggers need to give their writing a trial run. If the subject matter is something too specific, there may not be enough interest to have a blog reach its earning potential. So, a blogger needs to play around until they fall into their niche.
How Does a Blog Earn Money?
There are many ways for a blog to earn money as well as many blog hosts offering money to bloggers. Some blogs will let anyone sign up to write and others are more selective requiring and application, references and sometimes even writing samples. Either path can be lucrative as long as the writing and marketing are solid.
A blog, however, does not just generate traffic. The blogger needs to work at getting readers. There are many ways to go about this.
Read and Comment
Reading and commenting on other blogs is a way to introduce yourself to the blogging community. Bloggers often include links to their own blogs in their signatures or comments to one another. This is a good way to show other bloggers support while perhaps drumming up theirs as well.
Advertise on Other Online Communities
There are multiple online social communities these days. It's hard to not find one when browsing around. So, if the blogger happens to have profiles at places like MySpace, FaceBook, LinkedIn, Stumble and so fourth, it would be wise to promote a blog in these venues.
Make CSS Feed Obvious
Always place a link to the blog's CSS feed at the top of the screen or off to the side where it is sure to be seen. If the CSS feed is in an obvious spot, more readers will be willing to subscribe to the blog...and remember, more readers means more money!
Entrecard and Other Services
There are also many blog traffic generating services out there! Places for bloggers to go and check out other blogs in the same niche or perhaps out of the niche! Entrecard works by letting bloggers check one another out. Every blogger that visits will leave their "card" with a link back to their own blog. It's a good way to check out other bloggers and generate new interest!
Blogging is a very easy way to earn some extra cash as long as dedication and knowledge are put into the effort. These are just a few pointers on starting out. There is much more to the world of blogging but this advice will point the way.
