Artist Spotlight: Matt and Jasmine Commerce

Singing San Diego Siblings

New indie artists Matt and Jasmine Commerce are a breath of unique flair in a cookie-cutter world. They are separate artists, but perform on one another's debut albums.

The siblings transcend any sort of audience restraint. They've been enjoyed by young and confused teenagers searching for a musical genre to call their own as well as retired senior citizens. They have, in fact, played quite a few retirement homes on their path to musical recognition.

Official Debut Of Well-Known San Diego LocalsWhile their official musical debut is very recent, Jasmine's debut album, "Somewhere in Between" was released December 2008 and Matt's album, "Closer Than You Realize" was released January 27, 2009, they have gathered up quite a following since their musical inception.

The duo have been spotted all over California; open mics, bars, clubs and even, as previously noted, retirement centers. They are both loved and revered by their fans due to their comical nature and the deep connection they're able to produce with any audience. Jasmine also has a music v-log which can be found on YouTube. Check her out, she's quite entertaining!

The Style and Grace of Sibling Performers

Both Matt and Jasmine are incredibly gifted, though their talents and styles are quite different from one another. They both have beautiful voices with subtle bluesy undertones, sparkling personalities and a great affinity for the acoustic guitar. As solo artists they are great, each having their own signature style, but as a duo they are phenomenal.

Matt tends a bit more towards the classical blues music with a great voice for crooning while Jasmine enjoys exploring more contemporary indie stylings with her breathy emotionful voice. Though, as a pair this duo is quite a spectacle. They tackle everything from the golden oldies all the way to fresh-faced contemporary indie tunes, both covers and original songs. Their original songs are well-written and wonderfully performed. But, the beauty of their partnership is how well balanced their act is.

They create beautiful richly layered harmonies while not sacrificing the integrity of their melodies. They are also known for their camaraderie, they play off one another quite well bantering back and fourth and obviously enjoying what they do. It's rare to see talented young musicians with a true love and appreciation for music and performing--the Commerce siblings take the cake there.

Make sure to check out their albums because this article doesn't do them justice. Their music needs to be experienced for people to really appreciate the scope of their talent.

Expect great things from this pair. Their journey has just begun and they've come out kicking!

It's nice to see them getting the recognition they both deserve. They are truly talented, and serious musical forces in their own rights.
